PokerStars WSOP Satellite Tournaments

Most all of the major poker sites offer satellite tournaments to the WSOP Main Event. Bodog, Full Tilt, Players Only, Sportsbook, Doyles Room all offer some very good prize packages to the Main Event. However, PokerStars remains the leader in terms of the sheer number of satellites that they offer and the huge amount of players that they send to the WSOP Main Event every year.

There is a Satellite to the WSOP Main Event for every budget.  Some of their tournaments are satellites to another satellite, so you may have to go through a few different levels to actually reach the big game. That is, if you opt for the cheaper buy ins.  There are $2+rebuy that then take you to a $33+ rebuy tournament, that then takes you to the $650 tournament which puts you in the Main Event and several variations of this in different dollar amounts for the entries.

One nice thing about these tourneys is that most of the time you don’t have to actually win to advance. Depending on how many people enter a given satellite, you may gain entry to the next tournament if you finish in the top 5, 10, 20, or even the top 30-40 in some cases. This is great because you may suffer through a bad beat or two that would keep your chip stack from being big enough to have a good shot at winning, but would not decimate it enough to keep you out of the top number of places.

There are some excellent values scattered through these satellites at certain times on certain days, like the $30+rebuy tournament where the winner goes right to the Main Event. Which means if you play well and have some luck, you could conceivably gain entry to the main event for under $100!!!

There are also $200+$15 Satellites that are a particularly good deal and $650 Main Event qualifiers as well. By the way, if you gain entry through one of these tournaments, you not only get your $10,000.00 buy in paid, but $2500 in spending money as well. Obviously, this can be a pretty sweet deal.

Poker Stars even offers tournaments that you can buy into with your Frequent Player Points. (FPP) Yes,if you have 4,000 frequent player points, your can get into a satellite where the top players get their entry paid into the WSOP Main Event without having to spend a dime (other than the money you may have spent to accumulate the frequent player points!) There are also 40 FPP satellites to get into the 4,000 FPP tourneys. You just can’t beat a prize package worth $12,500 for free!

In my opinion, if you don’t want to pay the $10,000 entry fee out of your own pocket to get into the WSOP Main Event to compete against players like Daniel Negreanu, Chris Ferguson, Doyle Brunson, Joe Hachem, and many others, there is no better place than PokerStars to try your luck.
