Strategy for NL Holdem Knockout Tournaments

One of the best values and best reward tournaments on Full Tilt are the 90-player SnG knockouts. These tournaments are going all the time at $3.30, $6.50, $13, $24, $48 buys ins. This means there is a dollar level for everyone and obviously the knockouts go up in  corresponding amounts as well.

The final table gets paid in these events (plus all your knockouts) but the nice thing is, it is a great leverage on your money. 1st place in the $3 tournament is $72 or 24x your buy in. In a 9-player Sng, you are going to make 4x your buy in for 1st place, meaning you have to win at least 2 out of 4 SnG’s to even make it worth bothering with. With the 90-player knockouts, you don’t have to win all that often to make it worthwhile, plus you have the added advantage of collecting bounties for knocking a player out.

You are probably thinking: ‘yeah, but it is much harder to win a 90-player than a 9-player’ This may be true, but it is not as much more difficult as you might think.

These knockouts contain a lot of knucklhead players and, depending on what dollar amount you are at, 20-30 will bust out in the first 5-15 minutes. Plus you are not actually playing against all those other players like you are at a 9-player. You are not going to see 80-90% of those players, and most of the time around 2/3’s wil have busted before the tournament really gets going anyway. That means you are many times in a 30-40 player tournament, rather than 90. Not as tough as it seems.

I play these games a lot and usually have 1 or 2 going on the side when I am playing bigger MTT’s or something else that requires more concentration. Seldom do I not add to my bankroll with very little effort. Give them a try, you will find them to be some of the most profitable games on Full Tilt.
