As the painfully slow mess that is the Full Tilt Poker scandal continues to drag out in the most painful manner possible for US poker players, a glimmer of news has emerged!
The Garden City Group which is the collection of morons that the US Justice Department has put in charge of administering the funds to pay back players has issued a statement. Why it took so long to issue a couple of statements about the funds remains a mystery and forgive me if I don’t get too excited here:
“Starting on September 16, 2013, GCG will email a Notice with instructions on how to submit a Petition for Remission online to all potentially eligible claimants identified by GCG utilizing data supplied by Full Tilt Poker (“FTP”). The deadline to submit a Petition for Remission is November 15, 2013. Instructions concerning the filing of Petitions will be included in the Notice and will be posted on this website. Please continue to check this website for updates. Please note that the registration process for email notification is no longer available.”
Earlier this month the same group of brain surgeons posted a statement to let players know that they have decided to pay back US players based on the money that was actually in their accounts. I guess that’s opposed to paying back everything who ever lost a dime on Full Tilt, which for about 7 million reasons, not least of which being the money is not there for such an undertaking, is totally ludicrous. However, I suppose that the fact that they are announcing anything at all is to the good and maybe they will at some point get off their asses and start paying back US players.
The fact is folks, this good have been done in a matter of days. PokerStars has paid this money already when they purchased Full Tilt. It was part of the settlement with the DOJ in order for the sale to go through. The money, your money, US player’s money, has been sitting there under the thumb of The Garden City Group, whoever that is supposed to be and they have done nothing but drag their feet on actually putting the money back in the hands of the US players it belongs to. It’s only about $159 Million, not like any of the players who own that money could use it.
What a joke.
Can’t wait for the next Garden City Group Update.
