Internet Poker Coach Opinion of Online Poker in the US

So, obviously, Full Tilt, PokerStars and the other big boys of the industry are done in the US for the time being. They are not taking US players, nor could they even if they wanted to. Hell, Full Tilt isn’t even in business anymore. However, there are still smaller sites out there that are letting US players play, particularly players who already had an account prior to Black Friday. My personal advice on trying to play these smaller sites if you are a US player is simple: DON’T DO IT!

Folks, there is no stability at all in the online poker world right now, with the sole exception of PokerStars European market. If you, as a US player, insist on playing on sites like BoDog etc, then you are just setting yourself up for heartache. There is absolutely NO way to assure that you will be able to cash out if you win any money, and this defeats the purpose of playing poker itself. The last thing you should be worrying about if you are learning this difficult game, is whether or not you can get the money you have spent back out of a poker site!

Learn a lesson from the $30 million that is owed to Full Tilt players. Because of the upheaval and poor regulation of these online poker sites, things can go bad overnight. No one expected to lose all the money that they, as a player, had tied up on Full Tilt, but that is exactly what happened. You think that can’t happen with some small site? I have news for you, it can, and there is not a damn thing you can do about it.

The DOJ has decided to take the position that online poker is illegal in the US. Until this changes (and I think it will by legislation fairly soon) you can wake up in the morning and find the money that you have on pretty much any site that is messing around with US players, gone for good. There will be no one that you can cry about it to, and that,  is a horrible bet to make if you are a poker player.

  1. So true. I would not attempt to play any of the internet sites at this time. In fact I have been fine playing the Brick and Morter games in the Casinos. I am not working as a Poker Dealer and get to play the live cash games and then work the tournaments. Another way for me to be more involved with the Poker world.
