Online No Limit Texas Hold em: Rigged?

I have been playing online No Limit Hold’em all day today, mainly on Full Tilt and I just wanted to take a minute to rail against something that really irritates me about online play: a player losing a hand and ranting and raving about how the site is rigged.

If I had a dollar for every time I have seen someone gripe about “Full Tilt being rigged” or “PokerStars rewarding the donkey-players with suck-outs”, I would have enough money that I wouldn’t need to play internet poker anymore!

Aside from this being a totally ridiculous notion, why are you playing on a site that you think is rigged? If you really think that, go play bingo at your local bingo parlor, but for heaven’s sake, quit playing internet poker if you truly believe it to be fixed!

The fact of the matter is, some players just cannot stand to lose. Hey, I don’t like it either, but you do get unlucky sometimes. Suck-outs happen. You play with a bunch of idiots sometimes online, and occasionally they hit draws that boggle the imagination. That does not mean that online poker is rigged. It just means you got unlucky. Deal with it and move on, but please don’t sit and type over and type into the chat box that “Full Tilt” is rigged. It just makes you look like a moron.

I have seen some beats that are hard to believe. That is a given. But, think about it? What is the incentive of a poker site to “rig” the game to go against you and in favor of all the novice players?

Answer: there is none. The sites make their money in the rake whether you win or lose. It is that simple.

Don’t think that is a lot of money and the sites must need to rip you off to make more? Get real. Take a look at how many games are being played on PokerStars and Full Tilt at any one time. It is enormous. They don’t need to make anymore than the rake because the rake is so huge when you add up all the games going on. Quantity, quantity, quantity. Think about it.

Further, what would Daniel Negreanu, Jennifer Harmon, Joe Hachem, Eric Lindgren, Phil Ivey,  and other top pros doing on sites that are rigged? Do you know how much money these pros make in the live cash games that they play in? Let’s just say it is a lot. They certainly have no need to associate with online sites that are not on the up and up, that is for sure.

So, the next time you lose a big hand, just shake you head, pound your head on your computer desk, or whatever it is you need to do, but please don’t sit there complaining about “rigged poker sites”. It is just silly and makes you look like the ass that you are.
