Well, it didn’t take long for Nevada to get cards in the air for the first legal, regulated online poker site in the US.
Ultimate Poker became the first, today at 9:00 PST. Ultimate Poker is the Station Casinos owned company and they have wasted no time jumping into the market in the US. Of course, as previously noted on my site, www.chriswilcoxpoker.com ONLY Nevada residents can play, but expect more states to join New Jersey and Delaware quickly to get in on the action. Now that it is available legitimately, other states are going to want a piece of the tax revenue that will surely be generated by a huge online industry.
This quote today from chairman Tom Breitling:
“We are proud to be the first company to deliver legal and secure real-money online gaming to poker players. “We have worked closely with state gaming regulators to demonstrate our unique and compelling poker platform that, above all, players know they can trust. Ultimate Poker is dedicated to being the players’ choice for online poker.”
You can make deposits online whether you live in NV or are visiting and you can cash out at Station casinos as well as online, but you must be in NV to create an account and play. This will probably create a huge swirl for players who go to Vegas to play in the 2013 WSOP this summer. Many of these players got their start online and will no doubt spend a lot of time between tournaments in their rooms on a laptop checking out the new software. Pretty brilliant move by Ultimate Poker and really I would expect nothing less than this marketing strategy from the Station Casinos.
It will be interesting to see in the coming months who else jumps on the band wagon and how things shake out, but it looks like online poker is back in the US to stay.
