In my never ending quest to clear up all the misconceptions and misinformation about online poker in the US, I thought I had better make more players aware of what is happening as far as the legalities of online poker in the lovely state of Nevada.
At this point, Nevada had legalized online poker within the state Caesar’s Entertainment received the go ahead to run online poker WITHIN the state in late 2012. What that means very simply is that you can play if you live in Nevada. I know, big deal, if you live anywhere else in the US, but it’s a step in the right direction. Plus, what it is really doing is laying the groundwork for other states to join in with an intrastate pact of some sort.
So, not having the technology readily available, Caesars partnered with 888 Holdings which is currently running online poker outside of the US. As of this writing the WSOP (which is of course, owned by Caesar’s Entertainment) has announced that you can join the Beta testing program for their new online poker software. There is nothing in it for the player, except the pioneer-like feeling of playing a game that millions of players have been playing in this country for 10+ years prior to Black Friday
You can find out how to sign up at the WSOP site and get started, I believe soon, no doubt playing for ‘play’ chips rather than real money. While this doesn’t seem like much, it is a step in the right direction to getting online poker back online in the United States. Stay tuned for more information.
